Chapter Beginnings
Pennsylvania State University, in south central Pennsylvania, was founded in 1855. The first club for women established at Penn State selected its name — Nita-Nee — in honor of a mythical Indian princess believed to have ruled a beautiful valley in central Pennsylvania. The women of Nita-Nee petitioned the Fraternity and the flourishing club became Beta Phi Chapter in 1931.

From the very beginning, Theta alumnae have distinguished themselves in their careers and their volunteer endeavors. In fact, some are so well-known that they’re household names, and many have the distinction of being the first women in their professional fields.
