Chapter Beginnings
Although Carnegie Institute — now Carnegie Mellon University — had local sororities, it did not welcome national women's groups until the World War II years. Beta Tau Lambda, with a 23-year history on campus, petitioned Kappa Alpha Theta and was installed as Gamma Theta Chapter in 1944.

From the very beginning, Theta alumnae have distinguished themselves in their careers and their volunteer endeavors. In fact, some are so well-known that they’re household names, and many have the distinction of being the first women in their professional fields.
