Chapter Beginnings

Gamma Omicron Chapter was colonized at the University of New Mexico in 1948. This was the post-World War II era, when housing for burgeoning enrollments included steel Quonset huts and other temporary shelters. Initially the chapter was housed in “Theta Barracks, T-14.” Alumnae came to Albuquerque from all over New Mexico, Colorado, and Arizona to celebrate the installation, and a new state was added to the list of Theta addresses. Gamma Omicron Chapter left the campus in 1978.

Notable Thetas

From the very beginning, Theta alumnae have distinguished themselves in their careers and their volunteer endeavors. In fact, some are so well-known that they’re household names, and many have the distinction of being the first women in their professional fields. The archives takes this opportunity to recognize some of our more notable sisters.
